Air travel has become a popular mode of transportation for long-distance trips. However, many people still have questions about the necessary procedures and documents when flying, especially for domestic flights. 1. Required Documents for Passengers Aged 14 and Above

1.1. Vietnamese Citizens

If you are a Vietnamese citizen taking a domestic flight, you need to bring one of the following documents:

  • National Identity Card (CMND)/ Citizen Identity Card (CCCD): These are the two most common documents accepted on most domestic flights.
  • Valid Personal Identification Certificate: If you cannot present a CMND or CCCD, you can use a valid personal identification certificate.
  • Airport Security Control Card/ Vietnamese Airline Identification Card (If Available): These cards can be used as alternatives in certain special cases.
  • Driver's License: This is also one of the valid documents for domestic flights.
  • National Assembly Delegate Card; Identification, Certification from People's Police, People's Army; Party Member Card; Press Card...: All these types of cards can be used when checking in for flights.

1.2. Foreign Nationals

For non-Vietnamese passengers taking domestic flights within Vietnamese territory, you need to prepare one of the following documents:

  • Passport/ Laissez-Passer Issued by Vietnam: These are important and mandatory documents when flying domestically in Vietnam.
  • Separate Visa Documents, Temporary Residence Card, Permanent Residence Card: These documents confirm your legal residency rights in Vietnam.
  • Note Verbale from Diplomatic Missions: If you have lost your passport, you need a note verbale from the diplomatic or consular mission of your country of citizenship, or an official letter from the Vietnamese Department of Foreign Affairs.

2. Required Documents for Children Under 14 Years Old

Children under 14 years old taking domestic flights need to prepare and present the following documents during airport check-in:

  • Individual Passport or Listed on Parent's Passport: Children can use their own passport or be listed on their parent's passport for identity verification.
  • Birth Certificate: The original or certified extract of the birth certificate is an important and mandatory document for children traveling by air. Note that photocopies or notarized copies are not accepted.
  • Birth Confirmation Certificate: For children under 1 month old without a birth certificate, a birth confirmation certificate stamped by the competent authority will be accepted.
  • Confirmation from Social Organizations: For children cared for by social organizations, confirmation from such organizations is valid for 06 months from the date of confirmation.

Special Notes:

  • Child's Age: The child's age will be calculated based on the departure date.
  • Children Aged 12 - 14 Traveling Alone: Children aged 12 to 14 can travel alone, but a legal guardian must accompany them during check-in to complete procedures. Required documents include birth certificate and legal commitment from the guardian.
  • Children Under 12 Years Old: In special cases, passengers aged 12 - 14 without a passport or passengers under 12 must meet one of the following conditions:
    • Have a legal guardian traveling with them.
    • Book tickets with an adult (over 18 years old), complete check-in procedures together, and travel together throughout the journey.
    • Have a commitment from the airline regarding child care from start to finish of the journey.

3. Required Documents for Pregnant Women

When pregnant women take domestic flights, in addition to a valid CMND or CCCD, each airline has different regulations regarding necessary procedures and documents. Specifically:

3.1. Vietnam Airlines

  • Under 32 Weeks: Documents and procedures are the same as regular passengers.
  • From 32 - 36 Weeks: A health confirmation certificate for pregnant women is required before flying (MEDIF I, MEDIF II).
  • Over 36 Weeks or Within 7 Days Before/After Delivery: Not permitted to fly.
  • Special Cases: If pregnancy duration cannot be determined, previous history of twins, triplets, multiple pregnancies, or pregnancy via artificial insemination, health confirmation before the flight is required.

3.2. Bamboo Airways

  • Under 28 Weeks: Passengers need documents proving fetal age such as prenatal examination records, regular check-up books, ultrasound reports, and must sign a liability waiver before flying.
  • From 28 - 32 Weeks: Passengers need to provide documents such as prenatal examination records, regular prenatal check-up books, ultrasound reports, doctor's confirmation of gestational age, expected delivery date, health status...
  • From 32 - 36 Weeks: Must provide health examination certificate according to MEDIF II form or doctor's confirmation.

3.3. Vietjet Air

  • Under 27 Weeks: Passengers need to provide documents verifying fetal age and sign a liability waiver agreement with the airline.
  • From 27 - 32 Weeks: Requires doctor's confirmation of fetal and maternal health status within 07 days before the departure date.
  • Over 32 Weeks: Not permitted to fly.
